FORT MILL, SC ~ David John Spiess, age 88, passed away Monday, May 15, 2023. He was born October 6, 1934, in Buffalo, NY a son of the late Henry Spiess and the late Stella Cichocki Spiess and was the husband of Mary Modaffari Spiess. Mr. Spiess proudly served in The United States Army and served as Volunteer Firefighter with U-Crest Fire Department in Cheektowaga, NY for over 20 years. He was a general mechanic for Cheektowaga High School for over 30 years. Mr. Spiess enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, landscaping, and watching the Buffalo Bills. He loved dogs, food, and his family.

Mr. Spiess is survived by his wife of 64 years; Mary Modaffari Spiess; his two daughters, Dawn Cannon (Aaron) of Waxhaw, NC, and Debbie Randall (Keith) of Raleigh, NC; his two sons, David Spiess (Patsy) of Sharon Springs, NY, and Dwayne Spiess (Susan) of Schaghticoke, NY; his eight grandchildren, Natalie, Matthew (Paige), Holly, Monica, Joshua, Bridget, Paige, and Sophie; and his brother, Hank Spiess.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Stella Spiess; his sister, Henrietta Schlotterbeck, and her husband Raymond; and sister-in-law, Delores Spiess.

The Celebration of Life Graveside Service for Mr. Spiess will be private on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
