INDIAN LAND, SC – Dr. David Alan Bryant, age 84, passed away at his home in Indian Land, South Carolina on Saturday August 31st, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Born July 6th, 1940 to Everette and Kathryn Bryant in Vestal, New York. He graduated from Vestal High School in 1958 where he was a member of the Golden Bears Football and Wrestling teams. After high school he attended Moravian College where he continued his love of sports.

Soon after completion of a doctorate degree from Illinois College of Optometry, he married his lifelong friend Kathy from Wrighter Lake in Pennsylvania. He was then drafted by the United States Army as an optometrist for 2 years of service. Upon discharge he started his very own optometric office in Endwell, New York where he practiced for many years.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years Kathryn Arnold Bryant. Four sons: Chris Bryant (Cindy), Dr. Craig Bryant (Nicole), Corey Bryant (Kelly), Casey Bryant. Five grandchildren: Delaney Kathryn (Dillon), Ashleigh Renae (Shawn), Evan James, Logan Casey, Lucas Christian. Four great grandchildren: Ellison Tate, Bryant Rivers, Layton Reece, Hutton Audrie Renae.

David was an avid leader in his community. He served as president of Rotary Club, many years as Wrighter Lake Association president, member of Pathfinder Village Board of Directors, Cub Master of the Boy Scouts and past president of the Sun City "Old Stogies" Club.  He volunteered many hours with Easter Seals. He was a Southern Tier Hockey Association youth hockey coach and played in a men's hockey league himself until the age of 68 years young and was known as Slash! Through the years he has skated in celebrity hockey tournaments with Gordie Howe, David Schultz and other former NHL players.

Most importantly, he was known to us as Dad, Papa, Grandpoo, a great mentor and most of all our families annual Santa Claus with a hardy "Ho-Ho-Ho"!!!

The family will receive friends from 2:00pm - 4:00pm Saturday, September 7, 2024, at Burgess Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association in Dave's name.
