ROCK HILL, SC – Corporal Devon Ryan Payne, age 34, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2024. He was born September 13, 1989, in Chester, SC, the son of Charles "Chuck" Talmadge Payne II and Bobbie Shoe Payne. Corporal Payne attended boot camp at Parris Island, SC. 2ndBn, Fox Company, Platoon 2064, May of 2007. Upon graduation of Boot camp was sent to Camp Geiger, NC to The School of infantry - Charlie Company where he obtained the Military occupation specialty of 0311 Infantry Rifleman. He checked into 1st battalion, 2nd Marines, Bravo Company, 1st Platoon, on Camp Lejeune, NC October 2007.  Achieving the rank of Corporal and served in the billets of saw gunner, team leader, and squad leader on combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Corporal Payne was very patriotic. He loved God, his country, the love of his life, daughter, Emma, and his family. He was an avid Carolina Panthers and Carolina Gamecock Fan.

Corporal Payne is survived by his daughter, Emma Caroline Payne; his parents, Chuck and Bobbie Payne; his sister, Casie Bohn, and her husband, Justin of Lancaster, SC; his brother, Nicholas Payne, and his wife Ashley of Maiden, NC; paternal grandparents, Tal and Jackie Payne of Great Falls, SC; aunts and uncles, Todd and Jennifer Payne, Lisha and Ernie Wilson, and Ryan and Jodi Neal; and a large extended family.

The Celebration of Life Service for Corporal Payne will be 11:00 am Monday, February 12, 2024, at Pleasant Dale Baptist Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
