LANCASTER, SC:::::::::::Mrs. Cordelia "Dee Dee" Carnes Newton, age 67, died Monday, September 8, 2014 at Springs Memorial Hospital. She was born October 28, 1946 in Lancaster County, the daughter of the late Woodrow Wilson Carnes and Euree McManus Carnes and was the wife of the late Waymon L. Newton. Mrs. Newton retired from Springs Industries and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she served in the nursery, Mission friends, Women's Mission, and the Hospitality Committee.
Mrs. Newton is survived by two sons, Rickey Scott Gainey and his wife Crystal of Ripley, WV and Mark Newton and his wife Kaye of Lancaster, a daughter, Sharon Newton Lowery and her husband Mike, a sister, Trudy Carnes and a sister in law, Jinx Catoe Carnes all of Lancaster, 8 grandchildren, Michael Lowery, Jr. and his wife Lindsey, Justin Lowery and his wife Kelly, Hannah Gainey, Stephen Gainey, Seth Gainey, Ian Gainey, Jeremy Newton and Hunter Newton.
Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by a brother, Mickey Wilson Carnes.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Newton will be 2:00 pm Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Bethlehem Baptist Church by Rev. Jason Myers with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
The Family of Mrs. Newton will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:00 pm Thursday in the church sanctuary and suggest memorial contributions be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1841 North Rocky River Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
