LANCASTER Mrs. Colen Hinson Simpson, age 88, died Monday, June 5, 2017 at her home. She was born March 31, 1929 in Union County, NC, a daughter of the late George Preston Hinson and Rosa Mullis Hinson and was the wife of the late Harold Mitchum Simpson. Mrs. Simpson retired from Springs Industries. She loved gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a faithful member of White Springs Baptist Church and the Ladies Auxiliary of Shiloh Zion Fire Department.

Mrs. Simpson is survived by her children, Kenneth Simpson and his wife, Karen Blackmon and Carol Walters and her husband, Michael of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Tambra Gardner and her husband, Phil, Chad Walters and his wife, Jacque, Jeffrey Simpson and his wife, Poppy and Kelly George and her husband, Ralph; sixteen great grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Simpson; two great grandchildren, Preston and John George and her twelve siblings.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Simpson will be 3:00 pm Thursday, June 8, 2017 at White Springs Baptist Church by Rev. Don Waldrop and Rev. Charles Hammond. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 8:00 pm, Wednesday evening, June 7, 2017 at Burgess Funeral Home and other times at her home. Memorial contributions may be made to White Springs Baptist Church, 1249 Grace Avenue, Lancaster, SC 29720.
