FORT MILL, SC:::::::::: Mr. Clyde Harris Ray, age 80, formerly of Lancaster, died Sunday, December 13, 2015. He was born June 13, 1935 in Charlotte, NC, a son of the late Ernest Ray and Marie Hunter Ray and was the husband of Mildred McManus Ray. Mr. Ray was the owner/operator of R & R Body Shop for many years. Traveling was his passion and he believed that God created all of his wonders to be seen and enjoyed. He was a member of the Carolina Cruisers Motor Coach Association. He was a lover of all types of music from novice to the most accomplished. He enjoyed square dancing and was Past President and longtime member of the Red Rose Ramblers. He served our country in the United States Army, spent most of his life at Calvary Baptist Church and after moving to Fort Mill, became a member of Grace Presbyterian Church in Fort Mill.
Mr. Ray is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Mildred McManus Ray; a son, Michael Ray and his wife, Johanna of Huntersville, NC; three daughters, Susan Ray Steele and her husband, Al of Fort Mill, Julie Ray Lamb and her husband, Bill of Rock Hill and Michelle Ray Mathis of Fort Mill; two brothers, Harold Ray and his wife, Dixie of Harrison, AR and James Ray and his wife, Sarah of Lancaster; and eight grandchildren, Macray Steele, Allison Steele Thompson, Caroline Lamb, Catherine Lamb, Grant Mathis, Anna Mathis, Evan Ray and David Ray.
Mr. Ray was preceded in death by a sister, Katie Ray Coates.
The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mr. Ray will be 3:00 pm, Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Calvary Baptist Church by Rev. Jimmy Fox and Rev. Joanne Sizoo.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Tuesday evening, December 15, 2015 at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, and suggest in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 993, Rock Hill, SC 29730 or the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glen Allen, VA 23060-9979.
