3:00 - 4:00 pm (Eastern time)
COLUMBIA, SC – Mr. Clyde Ghent, age 97, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the VA Hospital. Born on January 22, 1929, he was the son of the late Charlie Ghent, Sr. and Mary Sweatt Ghent, and the devoted husband of the late Elizabeth Brown Ghent.
A proud member of Shriners International and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Mr. Ghent lived a life defined by dedication, service, and hard work. He was a talented carpenter who deeply loved his craft and took immense pride in the homes he built and the work he created with his hands. Clyde served in the United States Army and retired from Springs Industries, where he worked nights, while continuing to build homes during the day—an enduring reflection of his tireless work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. He also enjoyed going to auctions.
When his health allowed, he faithfully attended Second Baptist Church, where he was a valued and cherished member of his church family.
He is survived by his son, Paul Clyde Ghent, and his wife, Suzette; and his three beloved grandchildren, Quinten Ghent, Noah Ghent, and Megan Rutledge.
In addition to his wife, Elizabeth, Mr. Ghent was preceded in death by his daughter, Vicki Lynn Rutledge; his parents; and his siblings, Walter Ghent, Charlie Ghent, John Ghent, Roy Ghent, Fannie Proctor, Minnie Lee Smith, Myrtle Boyd, Jessie Cameron, and Sarah Ghent.
A Celebration of Life graveside service for Mr. Ghent will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Lancaster Memorial Park.
