WAXHAW, NC ~ Mr. Clifford Mackey Herron, age 95, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2019 at his home.  He was born August 25, 1923 in Curtis, Arkansas, a son of the late Robert Howard Herron and Jewell Freeman Herron and was the extraordinarily devoted husband of the late Nellie Taylor Herron.  Mr. Herron volunteered to serve his country in the United States Army during World War II as a combat engineer.  He was office manager for 34 years for Equitable Life Insurance Company.  After retiring, he ran a sawmill until six months prior to his passing.  He enjoyed gardening, was a wonderful fisherman, and taught many people how to water ski.  Mr. Herron was a Boy Scout Troop leader and enjoyed helping anyone in need with anything at all.  Mr. Herron was a charter member of Covenant Baptist Church where he served on many mission trips with them and First Baptist Church.

Mr. Herron is survived by two sons, William Robert Herron and his wife, Becky and Kenneth Taylor Herron and his wife, Jane Alford; a daughter, Frances Katherine Herron Howell; nine grandchildren, Kari Howell, Blair Cohen and her husband, Matt, Allison Howell, Elise Clark, Nathan Herron, Brooke Hardymon and her husband, Ricky, Crystal Herron, Brandi Rougeux, and Ashley Herron; nine great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Joanne Beard.

Mr. Herron was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Nellie Herron; his parents; a brother, Harris Herron; two sisters, Avenell Beene and Rhelda Dodwell; and a son-in-law, James Howell.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Herron will be 3:00 pm Monday, April 22, 2019 at Covenant Baptist Church officiated by Dr. Bert Welch and Rev. Jim Osteen.  Burial will follow at Tirzah Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 – 3:00 pm, prior to the service, in the church fellowship hall and suggest memorial contributions be made to Covenant Baptist Church, PO Box 578, Lancaster, SC 29721.
