FORT LAWN, SC::::::Claudia Kathryn Turner Corbett, age 91, widow of Thomas Malcolm Corbett, Jr., passed away Wednesday, February 24, 2016. Mrs. Corbett was born November 16, 1924, daughter of the late Claud Hyatt Turner and Susie Cloud Boylston Jones Turner, and was a lifelong resident of Fort Lawn, SC. Claudia graduated as valedictorian from Fort Lawn High School in 1942, attended business school at Kings College in Charlotte, NC and worked at Springs Grace Bleachery until her sons were born. She was a stay at home Mom for many years while managing the family egg production and delivery business and serving as substitute rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. In addition, she turned her talents, such as reweaving cane bottom chairs and wallpapering, into a small side business to support her family while her boys were young. Claudia returned to full time work as a bookkeeper for several local businesses including Lancaster Feed & Farm Supply, Greg Enterprises, and Smith Trucking. She was an avid gardener and especially enjoyed cooking and canning her homegrown produce for family and her many friends. She will long be remembered for her skinny homemade biscuits, fig preserves, and okra pickles.
She is survived by sons, Mickey Corbett of Pickens, SC, and Tommy Corbett and wife Joanne of Charlotte, NC; four granddaughters, Christi Leigh Corbett-Broome, Morgan Corbett, Turner Corbett, and Cameron Corbett, great grandson Grayson Taylor Broome, and a brother, Roy Gene Turner of Fort Lawn. She was preceded in death by a sister, Louise Turner Burgdorf.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Corbett will be 4:00 pm Sunday, February 28, 2016 at Fort Lawn United Methodist Church by Rev. Karen Richmond and Rev. Glenn Ribelin. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 4:00 pm Sunday, in the church sanctuary, and
in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to the Fort Lawn United Methodist Church.
