HEATH SPRINGS, SC – Mr. Clarence Alexander Douglas, III, age 81, passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2024. He was born January 20, 1943, in Blackstock, SC, son of the late Clarence Alexander Douglas, Jr. and Mary Polly Mobley Douglas and was the husband of Suzanne Helen Shepherd Douglas. Mr. Douglas was part Cherokee Indian and loved collecting arrowheads. He was a volunteer for Adopt a Highway, a conservationist, and a poet. Since he was 8 years old, he has been recording the weather, keeping historic records of daily temperature, highs and lows, rainfall, hail, hurricanes, and even the first sighting of the hummingbirds. Mr. Douglas always had pets, especially cats, and was also fond of spiders.
Mr. Douglas is survived by his wife of 47 years, Suzanne Douglas, his daughter, Amber Suzanne Douglas, and her spouse Katelyn; five grandchildren, Ivan Plyler, Levi Plyler, Aspen Plyler, Oakley Plyler, and Luna Douglas; and Mr. Douglas would want to acknowledge his granddaughter, Ashley Victoria Martin who he had the privilege of helping to raise and who gave him four beautiful great grandchildren, Juelz Martin, Donovan Martin, Jr., Sage Martin, and Gianna Martin.
The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Douglas will be 2:30 pm Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Burgess Funeral Home. Burial will follow at cemetery in Blackstock, SC.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 2:30 pm, thirty minutes prior to the service, at Burgess Funeral Home.
