LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Chessie Lee Strickland Allen, age 91, passed away Sunday June 11, 2023. She was born October 15, 1931, a daughter of the late Jacob Pickney Strickland and Cannie Lee Cook Strickland and was the wife of Fulton C. Allen. Mrs. Allen enjoyed going to the beauty shop, shopping, traveling, working in her vegetable garden, and preparing the vegetables, especially shelling peas. She was a very social person who enjoyed being with family and friends. Mrs. Allen was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who cared for her family deeply and her family loved her dearly. She was a long-time member of Harvesttime Assembly of God.
Mrs. Allen is survived by her husband of 75 years, Fulton Allen; two sons, Billy Allen (Donzell) and Jimmy Allen; three daughters, Margie Reeder, Marilyn Caskey, and Debra Cook; eight grandchildren, Billy Allen, II (Michelle), Joel Allen (Lael), Christopher Reeder (Robin), Misty Carpenter (Christopher), Roger Powell (Anita), Lisa McInvaille (Bobby), Kaylee Allen, and Matthew Allen; fourteen great grandchildren, Andrew Allen, Anna Beth Allen, Anson Allen, Rorie Allen, Tindall Allen, Wyle Allen, Emilee Reeder, Jacob Reeder, Samuel Reeder, Ellie Carpenter, Kesla Powell, Dalton Powell, Alex McInvaille, and Trent McInvaille; two great great grandchildren, Jayden Powell and Haysleigh Allen; and a large extended family.
Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jessie Strickland and Howard "Gene" Strickland; three sisters, Juanita Norris Richardson, Beatrice "Lola Mae" Richardson, and Ruby Johnson; and three sons-in-law, Ralph Reeder, Mickey Caskey, and Travis Cook.
The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Allen will be 1:00 pm Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Kenny Raymes. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at Burgess Funeral Home. For those who wish, memorials may be made to Hospice and Community Care, PO Box 993, Rock Hill, SC 29731.
