LANCASTER, SC – Mr. Charles “Charlie” Elliott Whitaker, age 67, passed away on Friday, July 10, 2026, at his home. He was born in Sumter, South Carolina, on July 21, 1958, he was the son of the late Charles Bobby Whitaker and the late Julia “Judy” Ann White Whitaker.

Mr. Charlie had a lifelong passion for drag racing. Whether he was preparing his race cars for the next event or spending time at the track, racing was where he felt most at home. He also enjoyed building detailed model cars and collecting Hot Wheels, hobbies that reflected his love for automobiles. Above all, Charlie treasured his family. He especially loved being a devoted Pawpaw, and nothing brought him greater joy than watching his grandchildren race and cheering them on every step of the way. The love he shared with them and the memories they created together will be cherished forever.

Charlie is survived by his son, Robert Whitaker (Tabitha); his five grandchildren, Raegan Marie Whitaker, Hannah Lynn Bax, Catherine Bailey Whitaker, Ryan Anslee Whitaker, and Noah Steven Whitaker; his two brothers, Greg D. Whitaker (Karen), Jeff A. Whitaker; and his special friends, Jerry Terlinde, Joe Howze, John Mahaffey, and Chris Hough.

He is preceded in death by his son, Steven Whitaker; his grandson, Robert Anson Whitaker; and his parents, Bobby and Judy Whitaker.

The Celebration of Life Service for Charlie will be 3:00pm on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at Bethlehem Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Patrick Blackmon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Burgess Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1841 N Rocky River Rd., Lancaster, SC 29720.
