LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. Charles Richard Hinson, age 81, passed away Sunday, July 7, 2019 at White Oak Manor-Lancaster.  He was born December 24, 1937 in Lancaster, the son of the late Curtis Charles Hinson and Betty Lucielle Starnes Hinson and was the husband of Brenda Funderburk Hinson.  Mr. Hinson was a graduate of Buford High School and University of South Carolina where he earned his bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.  He was an outstanding athlete and earned a football scholarship to USC.  Mr. Hinson was employed with Springs Industries for over 25 years as Director of Engineering Construction.  He was a member of the SC Board of Surveyors, Wannamaker Masonic Lodge, and was on the Board of Lancaster Counseling Services.  Mr. Hinson also served as a Gideon.  He enjoyed farming and raising his cows.  Mr. Hinson was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher and church treasurer.

Mr. Hinson is survived by his wife of 57 years, Brenda Hinson; a son, Jeffrey R. Hinson (Melissa); two grandchildren, Rayf Hinson and Nikolas Kostarelos; a great granddaughter, Aria Hinson; a daughter-in-law, Nancy H. Hinson; a sister, Beverly H. Duncan (Sam); two special nephews, Curtis Wrobel and Charlie Wrobel; and other nieces and nephews.

Mr. Hinson was preceded in death by a son, Darryl Ray Hinson; a grandson, D.J. Hinson; his parents; two sisters, Betsy Hinson and Carol Wrobel; and a half-sister, Patsy Phifer.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mr. Hinson will be 3:00 pm, Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Spring Hill Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Brad Threatt and Rev. Shawn Macy.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:00 pm in the church fellowship hall.
