LANCASTER, SC ~ Charles M. Harrell - January 18, 1928 - June 6, 2017

Charles Manley Harrell died peacefully at Morningside of Lancaster on June 6, 2017 in Lancaster, SC at the age of 89.

Charles is survived by his wife of 66 years Henri Nelle "Chick" Wilbanks Harrell of Lancaster, SC.; a brother, Bob L. Harrell (Ann) of Dalton, GA; three children, C. Andrew Harrell (Diane) of Lancaster, SC, Amy H. Lingle (Robert) of Brooklet, GA and Eric R. Harrell (Christina) of Greenville, SC; ten grandchildren, Robert Lingle, Daniel Lingle (Kathleen), Michael Lingle, Charles Lingle, Kathryn Hilton (Michael), Dray Lingle, Charles Harrell II, Gloria Lingle, J.T. Harrell and Grace Harrell; and six great-grandchildren, Aiden Lingle, Camryn Reynolds, Cullen Harrell, Brianna Lingle, Madilyn Hilton and Connor Lingle. He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Manley Harrell, his mother Katie Mae Stone Harrell, and his great-grandson, Connor Joseph Lingle.

Charles was born on January 18, 1928 in Tuscaloosa, AL and grew up in Atlanta, GA. He served in the United States Navy from 1946-1948, graduated from Georgia State University in 1958 and The Executive Management Program of the University of North Carolina. He began working for Springs Mills in 1971 as Assistant Controller, became Corporate Controller and retired as Vice-President - Financial Planning. Charles was a member of the Lancaster Rotary Club, served on and chaired the Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce, served on and chaired the Board of Directors of Springs Memorial Hospital, served on the local board of Wachovia Bank and served on the Board of Trustees of the J. Marion Sims Foundation. He was a devoted member of First Baptist of Lancaster for 45 years where he served as a Deacon, Usher, Chairman of the Finance Committee and a Sunday School Director.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Thursday, June 8, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Lancaster officiated by Rev. Randy Hatcher with a visitation at 1:00 pm. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Charles' life. In lieu of flowers please give to the charity of your choosing.
