LANCASTER, SC:::::::::: Mr. Charles Pruette Blankenship, Jr., age 88, died Tuesday, December 2, 2014. He was born January 3, 1926 in Fort Mill, SC, the son of the late Charles Pruette Blankenship, Sr. and Sadie Kimbrell Blankenship and was the husband of Elna Tinsley Blankenship. Mr. Blankenship was the retired co-owner of Lancaster Feed and Farm Supply Company. He was a graduate of Clemson University and served our great country in the US Army during WWII with the Army Combat Engineers. He served in England, France and Germany and received two Bronze Stars. Mr. Blankenship was a member of First Baptist Church of Lancaster since 1952 serving as Sunday School teacher, Superintendent of Sunday School and Deacon Emeritus. He previously served as Deacon at Flint Hill Baptist Church in Fort Mill. He was an avid sportsman and athlete, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors. He began playing golf after retiring at the age of 65.
Mr. Blankenship is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elna Tinsley Blankenship, a son, Alan Blankenship and his wife Dottie of Lancaster and a daughter, Jane Blankenship of York. A brother, Jon Blankenship and his wife Phyllis of Fort Mill, a sister, Mary Alice Moss of Richburg and a brother-in-law, Robert Whitley of Fort Mill. Four grandchildren, Anna Fleming and her husband Shain, Katie Blankenship and her fiancé, Brent Humphries, Mary Bradlee Baker and her husband, Captain Chris Baker, and Jane Ashley Hawkins and 7 great-grandchildren, Stella, Grant, Violet, Evan, Kenzlie, Janson and Kayne.
Mr. Blankenship was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Samantha Blankenship, a sister, Jane Whitley and a brother in law, Joe Moss.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Blankenship will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, December 6, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Lancaster. The Rev. Randy Hatcher and Rev. Charles Phillips will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Flint Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Fort Mill.
The Family of Mr. Blankenship will receive friends from 12:00 - 2:00 pm Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Lancaster PO Box 670, Lancaster SC 29721.
