Obituary

LANCASTER, SC.........Mr. Chalmers Bennie "C. B." Blackwell Jr., age 90, died Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born July 7, 1925 in Chesterfield County, a son of the late Chalmers Bennie Blackwell, Sr. and Lillian Coy Newman Blackwell and was the husband of Margaret "Peggy" Reaves Blackwell. Mr. Blackwell retired from Springs Industries - Leroy Plant. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Lancaster Golf Club for over 50 years. He served our great country in the United States Navy during World War II and was one of six brothers that served at the same time and all returned home. Mr. Blackwell was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and had served as Deacon and Trustee.

Mr. Blackwell is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret "Peggy" Reaves Blackwell; a daughter, Diane Blackwell Barton and her husband Paul of Lancaster; a brother, Ervin "Blackie" Blackwell of Kershaw; two grandchildren, Jennifer Williams and her husband, David and Meg Hinson and her husband, Keith and one great-grandchild, Burgin Reaves Williams.

Mr. Blackwell was preceded in death by five brothers, Ray Blackwell, Bill Blackwell, John Blackwell, Melvin Blackwell and Jack Franklin Blackwell and a sister, Irene Kennington.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Blackwell will be 3:00 pm Saturday, September 19, 2015 at Immanuel Baptist Church by Rev. Tim Anderson. Burial will follow at Kershaw City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service, from 2:00 - 3:00 pm in the church sanctuary and suggest memorial contributions be made to Immanuel Baptist Church, 1152 Great Falls Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720. The family will meet at the home of his daughter, Diane and Paul Barton.
