LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Cecilia Long McAteer, age 84, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2022, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born January 22, 1938, in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Cecil Bon Long and the late Eula Mae Robertson Long and was the wife of the late James William McAteer. Mrs. McAteer was the owner/operator of Cecile's Town and Country Beauty Salon. In past years, she enjoyed substitute teaching, gardening, sewing, and helping Mr. McAteer in his printing shop. She enjoyed shopping and being a mother. Mrs. McAteer was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, she served on many committees, and loved singing in the church choir.

Mrs. McAteer is survived by her son, James Scott McAteer; two daughters, Cynthia "Cindy" Cecilia McAteer, and Rhonda McAteer McCain (Colonel John M. McCain); four grandchildren, Lowell Bentley Whitson, Erikson Nowell Whitson, Lauren Elizabeth McCain, and Katelin McCain Elgan (Ben);  three sisters-in-law, Ernestine McAteer King (Bruce), Sara McAteer Threatt (Jimmy), Martha Jean McAteer Cowles (Phil); brother-in-law, Ned McAteer (Anna); and two special friends and caregivers, Leroy Faile, and Virginia Whitaker.

Mrs. McAteer was preceded in death by her husband, James William McAteer; her parents, Cecil and Eula Mae Long; and her sister Mary Ann Long.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. McAteer will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Bethlehem Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Patrick Blackmon. Private burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends directly following The Celebration of Life Service in the church fellowship hall.
