LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. Cecil Clifton, age 90, passed away Friday, May 28, 2021. He was born January 20, 1931 in Chesterfield, a son of the late James Simon Clifton and Mary Jewel Funderburk Clifton and the doting husband of Frances Elizabeth Pope Clifton. Mr. Clifton was an employee of Springs Industries (Grace Bleachery) for over 40 years. He was a member of the Masons Wannamaker Lodge, served in the United States Army, and was a volunteer firefighter. Mr. Clifton was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he served as deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years. While he never had children of his own, Uncle Cecil was a devoted uncle to many nieces and nephews, both by blood and by heart.
Cecil is survived by his wife of 67 years, Frances Clifton; a brother, Albert Clifton (Mary Ann); a sister, Betty Jean Outlaw; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Clifton was preceded in death by his parents; and 12 siblings.
The Celebration of Life Graveside Service for Mr. Clifton will be 3:00 pm Monday, May 31, 2021 at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery officiated by Rev. Patrick Blackmon and Rev. Larry Clifton.
The family will receive friends at the home of Mrs. Frances Clifton. For those who wish, memorials may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, Building Fund, 1841 N. Rocky River Rd., Lancaster, SC 29720.
