LANCASTER, SC ~ Ms. Carolyn Inez McCaskill Thomas, age 79, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026. She was born on February 22, 1947, in Lancaster, SC, a daughter of the late Oscar Hudson McCaskill and the late Lottie “Inez” Denton McCaskill.

Carolyn was a loving mother who, in her son’s words, was the best mom anyone could ever have. She enjoyed square dancing and was known for her good Southern homestyle cooking. Carolyn faithfully worked for Duke Energy for 35 years before retiring. She will be fondly remembered by those who knew and loved her.

Carolyn is lovingly survived by her son, Greg Clarke (Tina Hambrick); her granddaughter, Madison Diann Clarke; a niece, Susan Chappell; her sister, Sue Hodapp (Rick); her sister-in-law, Susie McCaskill (Michael); and her long-time companion, Joe R. Bailey.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Inez; a brother, Michael McCaskill; two half-brothers, Oscar McCaskill, Jr. and Gordon McCaskill; and her half-sister, Jean McCaskill.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Carolyn will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 25, 2026, at St. Luke Methodist Church in Lancaster, SC, officiated by Rev. Eddie Usher. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm, on Friday, September 25, 2026, at St. Luke Methodist Church.
