FORT MILL, SC ~ In loving memory of Carolyn Byrum Snipes, who passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at the age of 92. Born July 17, 1933, in Union County, NC, to the late Carl Taylor Byrum and Martha McIntyre Byrum, Carolyn lived a life defined by quiet strength, industriousness, and an unwavering devotion to those she loved.
Carolyn was a woman of many talents—a dedicated homemaker, a skilled manager of family properties, and a cornerstone of her late husband’s electrical contracting business, which she capably led following his passing until her retirement. Her spirit of service extended into her community as a long-standing member of Al-Anon and a woman of deep Presbyterian faith.
Her greatest legacy remains the large, vibrant family she nurtured. She is survived by her five children: Martha S. Hash of Fort Mill, SC; Karen Snipes and husband Bill Lawrence of Raleigh, NC; Deana R. Post and husband Alan of Port Charlotte, FL; James M. “Jim” Snipes, Jr. of Lancaster, SC; and Leslie S. Asbury and husband Daryl of Waxhaw, NC.
Her memory will be forever treasured by her eight grandchildren: Lina Lawrence, Carrie Cormier (Andre), Jason Armstrong (Jenna), Peggy Mitchell (Stephen), James M. “Jimmy” Snipes, III (Valeria), Melissa Mitchell (Michael), Hayden Asbury (Celia), and Hannah Eaton (Dustin).
She was also the proud great-grandmother to nine: Mira Connell, Luke Connell, Isabella Johnson, Caroline Armstrong, Everett Armstrong, Isaac Mitchell, James M. “Jimmy” Snipes, IV, Holly Mitchell, and Tayler Mitchell. She is further survived by her cousin, Dawn McGinnis; and her in-laws, Virginia Boling (Jim) and J.W. Snipes.
Carolyn was reunited in peace with her beloved husband, James M. Snipes, Sr., her parents, and cousin, Kim McGinnis.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Hwy., Lancaster, SC. The family will welcome friends for one hour prior to the service at Burgess Funeral Home. Ms. Snipes will be laid to rest at Shiloh ARP Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Metrolina Food Bank or Charlotte Rescue Mission.
