Marshall, NC ~ Mrs. Carol Usher Sowell, age 79, passed away at her home on Thursday, November 14, 2019. She was born March 25, 1940 in Union County, NC, the daughter of the late Walter Lee Usher and Ruby Thomas Usher and was the wife of John Lee Sowell, Sr.  Mrs. Sowell enjoyed working word search puzzles and going to the beach.  She loved Christmas and spending it with her family.  Mrs. Sowell was of the Christian faith.

Mrs. Sowell is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Lee Sowell, Sr.; her son, Johnny Sowell (Stacia); two grandchildren, Shelly Chandler (Jeremy) and Cassy Lee Sowell (Cody Giles); two great grandchildren, Noah Chandler and Cason Giles; a brother, Rev. Eddie Usher (Julie); three sisters, Betty Cox, Sissy Whitley (Zeb), and Cathy Fant; a sister-in-law, Rose Usher; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Sowell was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kenneth Usher; a sister, Louise Casey, and a brother-in-law, Lloyd Cox.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Sowell will be 2:00 pm Sunday, November 17, 2019 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Rusty McAlister.  Rev. Eddie Usher and Sissy Whitley will have scripture and song.  Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Saturday, November 16, 2019 at Burgess Funeral Home and suggest memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Attn: Memorial Department, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
