ROCK HILL, SC ~ Ms. Carol Lee Griffin Nicholson, 83, passed away on Monday, October 23, 2023.  She was born August 7, 1940, in Lancaster, SC, the daughter of the late Reverend Troy Griffin and Tiny Rollins Griffin.  She was married to the late Charles "Eddie" Nicholson.  She was a member of Park Ridge Baptist Church.

Carol moved with her dad and mom to Rock Hill at a young age.  After graduating from High School, she worked in the legal field in various positions. She later went back to school and earned her certification as a Court Reporter. During her career as a Court Reporter for the Circuit Court, she was able to travel around the beautiful State of South Carolina.  She retired from the South Carolina Judicial System in 2001 with 23 years of service.

When Carol was not babysitting her grandchildren, you would find her traveling.  Before her diagnosis of Parkinsons, she enjoyed traveling with her special companion, Ed Wheeler.  Carol loved camping and the two would camp as often as they could.  The beach and the mountains were her favorite camping locations.  In addition to her love for camping, she had a love for her dogs.  Poodles and chihuahuas were her favorite breeds and she had many throughout her life.  Her four-legged children enjoyed immense pampering, including home-cooked meals.  Carol leaves behind her chihuahua, Charlie, who will be cared for by her grandson, Drew.

Carol cared deeply for her family and friends.  She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother.  If there were ever a need, she would always be sure that need was filled, no matter how small it may have been.  She will be greatly missed by all who know her.  She is preceded in death by her son, Charles Lewis; and three siblings, Cathaline Griffin Peek, Howard Griffin, and Jerry Griffin.

Carol is survived by her two children, Deborah Turney, and Danny Lewis; her grandchildren, Lindsey Lewis, Matt Turney, Troy Lewis (Breanna), Preston Darby, and Drew Turney; and her great grandchildren, Levi Lewis, and Layla Turney.  In addition, she is survived by her bonus daughter, Emily Darby, bonus grandchildren, Mills Sharpe and Kitty Sharpe; and former daughter-in-law, Joyce Lewis.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the Providence Home Hospice team in Rock Hill who loved and cared for her.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 3:00pm at Lancaster Memorial Park in Lancaster, SC with Pastor Bill Gressette officiating.  The family will receive friends after the graveside service.
