Carol Parker Ghent, aged 84, peacefully passed into eternal rest on February 20, 2026, surrounded by her beloved family. Born on January 13, 1942, in Lancaster, South Carolina, she was the treasured daughter of the late Ira Wilkes Parker and Edith Pearl Taylor Parker.
Throughout her life, Carol embodied the virtues of faith, family, and selfless service. A devoted member of New Cut Presbyterian Church, she actively served as an elder and contributed to the women’s ministry. Her soul thrived on nurturing the beauty of life, finding joy in cultivating flowers and agriculture, exploring the vast landscapes of the United States and beyond, and creating cherished memories by the beach and in the mountains. An exceptional cook, Carol was renowned for her culinary delights, including her famous banana pudding, coconut cake, sugar toast, and chicken pot pie. In her formative years, she showcased her talent as a seamstress and graduated as valedictorian from Buford High School in 1960, further pursuing her education at Palmer College in Columbia, SC.
A woman of profound compassion, Carol dedicated her life to caring for those around her, shaping the lives of many with her nurturing spirit. Her greatest joy lay in crafting lasting memories with her three beloved daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored deeply. A charter member of the Eastern Star, she served with distinction as office manager at Farm Bureau for over three decades, bringing warmth and dedication to her role. Her constant companion, a cherished dog named Dubbie, brought comfort and joy to her days.
Carol is lovingly remembered by her daughters, Annette Ghent Melton (and husband, Keith), Angela Ghent, and Jamie Roberts (and husband, Scott); her two grandchildren, Parker Melton (and spouse, Micah) and William Atticus Sims, V; and her great-grandchildren, Elijah Ray Melton and Nova Brielle Melton. She is also mourned by her sister-in-law, Joyce G. Bowers, along with a large, extended family that will forever treasure her memory.
In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Jimmy Ghent; her brother, Maxwell Parker; and her infant sister, Baby Girl Parker.
A celebration of Carol's remarkable life will be held on Monday, February 23, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at New Cut Presbyterian Church, followed by burial in the church cemetery. The family invites friends to gather and share their condolences on Sunday, February 22, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Burgess Funeral Home.
