LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. Carl Edward Wright, age 79, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at  Palmetto Oak's Residential Care  in Pageland.  He was born July 12, 1943, in Lancaster, a son of the late John Wright and Lucille Watts Wright. Carl was a mechanic at Cooper Tools for most of his working career.  After retirement, he began working for Lancaster County recycling at the Heath Springs site.  He was always lending a hand to help others as they dropped off items.  Carl was the previous owner of Wright's Grocery in Tradesville.  He enjoyed golfing, breakfast with friends before work, coon hunting, and coaching football and soccer for Lancaster County Recreational Department. Most of all, Carl was proud of his two sons and loved spending time making memories with them.  He never met a stranger and always had a smile on his face.  Carl was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.

Carl is survived by two sons, Roger Wright, and Tony Wright (Mandi Smith); three grandchildren, Madison, Jacob, and Whitley; four sisters, Lounell Rodd, Rhonda Brasington, Susie Snow (Barry), Paula Nabors (David); a brother, Franklin Eugene "Skin" Wright; and a large extended family.

Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia "Jenny" Wright; a son, Thomas Wright; his parents; stepmother, Johnnie Mae Wright; a granddaughter, Railey Wright; and three brothers, Johnny Wright, Dennis Wright, and Pete Wright.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Sunday, June 4, 2023 at Burgess Funeral Home and other times at the home of Tony Wright, Carl's son.

The Celebration of Life Service for Carl will be 11:00 am Monday, June 5, 2023, at Oak Hill Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Marty Roberts. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital or The Lancaster County Children's Home.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff and caregivers at Palmetto Oak's Residential Care Facility for the wonderful care given to their father.
