LANCASTER, SC :::::::: Mr. Carl Britton Parker CW4 (Retired) age 85, died Monday, October 14, 2013. He was born July 21, 1928 in Lancaster, SC, a son of the late Britton L. Parker and Nannie Caroline Baker Parker and was the husband of Bertha Robinson Parker. Mr. Parker was a graduate of Lancaster High School, Vincennes University (Undergraduate) and Palmetto Military Academy.
Mr. Parker retired as Chief Warrant Officer 4 with the United States Army National Guard after 43 years of service. His military career began in 1947, serving during the Korean War in Company B 72nd Tank Battalion 2nd ID. He was the recipient of many awards and decorations including: Legion of Merit, United States Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal (Army), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with four oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Service Stars, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with three hourglasses, Overseas Service Ribbon, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, United Nations Service Medal, South Carolina Active State Service Medal (40 years), and South Carolina Governors Unit Citation. Mr. Parker was Past Commander American Legion, VFW, Mason and Shriner and a member of Second Baptist Church.
Mr. Parker is survived by his wife, Bertha R. Parker of the home, 3 sons, David A. Parker and his wife Gwen, Britton S. "Britt" Parker, and Jayson C. Parker all of Lancaster, a daughter, Donna P. Warwick of Colorado Springs, CO, a daughter-in-law, Louise Parker of Lexington, SC, a sister, Annie Locke, 5 grandchildren, David M. "Marty" Parker, Sutton Rose Parker, Kendrick, Ryan, Eric and Laurel Warwick, and 4 great grandchildren, Bailey, Kent, Lily Grace and Zeke Parker.
Mr. Parker was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Donald Parker, Lawton Parker, Mitchell Parker and Frank Parker, 2 sisters, Iva Grace McCaskill and Carolyn Huey, a son, Carl Roger Parker and a grandson, Justin Kent Parker.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Parker will be 2:00 pm Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Second Baptist Church by Rev. David M. "Marty" Parker, Dr. Brian Saxon and Rev. Larry Helm. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The Family of Mr. Parker will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 pm Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Burgess Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his son, Britt Parker, 1812 McIlwain Road, Lancaster. The family suggest memorials be made to Second Baptist Church, 1426 Great Falls Hwy., Lancaster, SC 29720.
