Obituary

LANCASTER, SC::::::::: Carl Biggart Hammond, age 90, of 513 South Gum Street, Pageland, died October 28, 2010 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. He was born October 9, 1920 in Lancaster County, the son of the late William Samuel Hammond and Mary Biggart Hammond. Mr. Hammond was twice married, first to the late Elsie McManus Hammond and secondly to the late Louise Lay Hammond. Mr. Hammond retired from Springs Industries, was a member of Fork Hill Masonic Lodge, a member of Rich Hill Baptist Church and served our great country in the United States Army during World War II. Mr. Hammond is survived by his son, Carlton Ray Hammond of Travelers Rest, SC, 5 grandchildren, Lisa Burgess Connell, Stephen Burgess, Jay Jacobs, Brian Jacobs, and Samuel Hammond.Mr. Hammond was preceded in death by 2 daughters, Martha H. Burgess, and Linda Jabobs, 4 brothers, Ben Hammond, Manley Hammond, William Hammond, and Marvin Hammond, and 5 sisters, Sadie Hagins, Mamie Knight, Hannah Campbell, Faye Kirk, and Beulah Marshall. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Hammond will be 3:00 pm, Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Rich Hill Baptist Church by Dr. Edwin Bagley and Rev. Bobby Joyner. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in the church cemetery. The Family of Mr. Hammond will receive friends from 1:30 - 3:00 Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the church social hall and suggests memorial contributions be made to Rich Hill Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund, 1557 E. Doc Garris Road, Lancaster SC 29720.
