Obituary

FORT MILL, SC – Mr. Bruce Donald Reinert, age 80, passed away April 26, 2023. He was born October 29, 1942, in Englewood, New Jersey, the son of the late Alonzo Fiske Reinert and Frances Rochford Reinert and was the husband of Nancy Piccolo Reinert.

Bruce loved God, his family, and his country. He was an unassuming gentleman; therefore others had no idea of his many accomplishments. These are just a few.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree from New Jersey Institute of Technology and a Masters in Bio Environmental Health Sciences from the University of New Mexico. He was an officer in the regular U.S. Air Force and New Mexico Air National Guard. He served for a total of 22 years during which time he was trained in the school of aerospace medicine and selected for the BEE program (Bio Environmental Engineering). He worked at the Atomic Energy Commission in Albuquerque, NM and Germantown, Maryland. He went on to serve as Vice President of Hanford Environmental Health in Richland, WA. Because of early military assignment in New Mexico, the southwest was a desired place to live. Thus, he became deputy division leader and group leader for the Industrial Hygiene division at Los Alamos National Laboratories. He helped develop a similar system, (to a NASA system) for a self-contained breathing apparatus suit as a respiratory inlet covering NIOSH.

He was published in several scientific articles. He served as president of the American Industrial Hygiene Association, Rio Grande Chapter. He ended his 26-year Los Alamos Career at Yucca Mountain, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was a volunteer for Hope of Lancaster and USO of North Carolina. He enjoyed golf, range shooting, skiing, camping, and kayaking.

He leaves behind his wife, Nancy; a son, Christopher (Patty); a grandson, Drew; a brother, Robert (Rosemary), a sister, Arlene (Martin); a sister, Carol and an honorary brother, Christian Oswald.

He lived the last ten years battling Alzheimer's disease. There will be a missing link in our family but we are happy in knowing that his mind will, once again, be clear and bright when he reaches his eternal home.
