FORT LAWN, SC ~ Mrs. Brennie Mae Denton Brakefield, age 92, passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2025. She was born May 6, 1932, daughter of the late John Burdette Denton and Coreen Estell Varnadore Denton and was the loving wife of the late Jordan Jefferson Brakefield. Mrs. Brakefield retired from the sewing room at Springs Industries. She enjoyed gardening, working in her yard and flowers, traveling, sewing, crafting, and knitting and was lovingly known as "Quilt N Granny". Mrs. Brakefield was a member of the Fort Lawn Community Center and Senior Center and at one time was on the board of directors for the community center. Family was very important to her, and she loved them all dearly, especially her grandson, Bryce. She was a lifetime member of Fort Lawn United Methodist Church and an honorary member of Fort Lawn Baptist Church.
Mrs. Brakefield is survived by her son, Glenn Brakefield; grandson, Bryce Jordan Brakefield and his wife, Brooke; sister, Leola Reiser and her husband, George; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jordan Brakefield; her parents; and sister, Mary Lee Plyler.
The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Brakefield will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at Fort Lawn Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Larry Helms and Rev. Ruth Ann Pitt. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Fort Lawn.
The family would like to give special thanks to all her wonderful caregivers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Fort Lawn Community Center, 4 K Program, 5554 Main Street, Fort Lawn, SC 29714.
