Brenda Elaine Cauthen Hood

December 12, 1943-March 29, 2025

INDIAN LAND, SC~ Brenda was the daughter of the late Archie Cauthen and Dorothy Cauthen. She was a delight to all who met her. Known for her sweet smile and soft words, she was a compassionate and patient wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend.

Brenda is survived by her two children, Leah Barker Courie (Jay) and Rich Barker (Kim), her brother Billy Cauthen, and four grandchildren, Anna K. Wallace, Emily Varnadore (Timothy), Jackson Beckham, Makena Barker and a great-grandchild, Brewer Varnadore. Her loving husband, Michael Hood predeceased her.

Brenda attended Winthrop University after graduating from Lancaster High School in 1962. Voted best dressed in her high school class, she always took pride in the neatness of her attire.

Brenda was an employee of Springs Industries in the customer service center and retired after forty-three years of dedicated service.

Brenda loved gardening and enjoyed watching her plants thrive under her green thumb. She was also a doting mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren and made many beautiful memories with each. She was the heart and soul of our family, a devoted mother whose unwavering loyalty and love touched every life she graced. She was a selfless lady whose life was a testament to unconditional love, always placing the needs of her family and friends above her own. Whether it was a late-night conversation, a warm meal prepared without hesitation, or a quiet sacrifice unnoticed by most, she gave tirelessly to ensure those around her felt cared for and supported. Her strength lay in her gentle insistence that everyone else's happiness mattered more, a legacy of compassion that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

The celebration of life service will be at 12 o'clock noon, Wednesday, April 2, 2025  at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home.  The family will greet friends following the service.
