LANCASTER, SC – Mr. William Boyd Cooper, age 85, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at his home. He was born on September 3rd, 1940, in Lancaster, the son of the late William Olen Cooper and the late Doris Mae Baker Cooper and was the loving husband of Peggy Sue Small Cooper.
Mr. Cooper was a proud graduate of Lancaster High School and a lifelong man of faith and service. He was a devoted member of Lynwood Drive Church of God, where he faithfully served his church family in many capacities. In the early 2000s, he was a dedicated leader of the Boys Club, mentoring and guiding young men with patience and wisdom. He was a retired Sunday School Superintendent, a role he carried out with deep commitment and love for teaching God’s word.
Mr. Cooper retired as a skilled mechanic from Springs Industries, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dependable nature.
In his spare time, he found great joy in yardwork and fishing, but nothing meant more to him than his family and his church family. He will be remembered for his servant’s heart, steady presence, and the love he shared so freely with those around him.
Mr. Cooper is survived by his wife, Peggy Cooper; his daughter, Melinda Cooper Hall (Tim); his son-in-law, Michael “Mike” Justice; his grandchildren, William Cauthen (Brooke), Joshua Cauthen (Morgan), Trey Morrow (Jessica), and Ethan Justice; his great-grandchildren, Chloe Watts, Cooper Cauthen, Tritt Cauthen, Raelynn Cauthen, Colton Morrow, Zachary Morrow, and Josiah Morrow; and many special family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa Cooper Justice; his parents, William and Doris Cooper; and his sister, Patricia Threatt.
The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Cooper will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at Lynwood Drive Church of God. Burial will follow at Westside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to Lynwood Drive Church of God Life Center, 2138 Lynwood Dr, Lancaster, SC 29720.
