LANCASTER, SC ~Mr. Bobby Gene Hartley, age 72, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2018 at the McWhorter Hospice House in Monroe, NC. He was born November 28, 1945 in Lancaster, SC, a son of the late Eliby Hartley and Annie Bell Martin Hartley and was the husband of the late Helen B. Hartley. Mr. Hartley loved his children and grandchildren, fishing and his dog, Tiny. Mr. Hartley retired from Springs Industries- Grace Finishing Plant after 43 years, where he was in the packing department. He was a superb guitarist and enjoyed playing the mandolin. Mr. Hartley was an Atlanta Braves fan. He was of the Christian faith.

Mr. Hartley is survived by four sons, Bo Hartley (Jennifer) Jody Hartley, BJ Hartley (Alison) and Mike Mackey (Angie), all of Lancaster; two daughters, Melissa Rushing (Clark) of Monroe, NC and Sandy Gordon, of Lancaster; fourteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; four brothers, Spivey Big Man Hartley, Charles Hartley, Leon Hartley, all of Lancaster and Leroy Hartley, of Greenville, SC; a sister, Becky Steen of Lancaster; a brother-in-law, John Black; and a sister in law, Brenda Hartley.

Mr. Hartley was preceded in death by his wife, Helen B. Hartley; his parents; and two brothers, Marvin Hartley and Junior Hartley.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Hartley will be 3:00 pm Tuesday, July 17, 2018 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home by Pastor Garrett Tucker, Rev. Rocky Rushing and son, Bo Hartley. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 7:00 pm Monday evening at Burgess Funeral Home and Crematory, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, SC and suggest memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1901 Brunswick Ave #100, Charlotte, NC 28207 or LSPCA, PO Box 3042, Lancaster, SC 29721.
