LANCASTER, SC ~ Mr. Billy Crawford Steele, age 89, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2022. He was born July 7, 1932, a son of the late William Ganson Steele and Lena Pardue Steele and was the husband of the late Iris Bailey Steele. Mr. Steele retired as Network Supervisor with the Lancaster Telephone Company after 38 years.   He had a very strong work ethic and it showed.  Mr. Steele served in the United States Air Force and served in the Korean War.  In his leisure time, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Iris, collecting movies and reading. Mr. Steele was a devoted husband to his wife for over 63 years.  He was a member of Oakridge ARP Church.

Mr. Steele is survived by three nieces, Linda Salters and her husband, James, of Orangeburg, Paula Hinson and her husband, David, of Lancaster, and Cheryl Wiggins of Lancaster; three nephews, Richard Carter and his wife, Kelsie, Wayne Carter and his wife, Nancy, and William Carnes; a sister-in-law, Vickie Bailey Ebbers and her husband, Steve, and dear friends, Billy and Angela Bailey.

Mr. Steele was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Steele; his parents; and four sisters, Mary Williford, Helen Jones, Nell Carter, and Marie Crawford.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Steele will be 3:00 pm Monday, May 16, 2022, at Oakridge ARP Church officiated by Rev. Dave Huffman.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SC Federation of the Blind, 1430 Confederate Ave., Columbia, SC 29201 or Oakridge ARP Church, 2774 McIlwain Rd., Lancaster, SC 29720.
