LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Willa "Billie" Barton Snipes, age 97, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2025 at her daughter's home. She was born on September 25, 1927, a daughter of the late William Troy Barton and the late Mary Louise Williams Barton and was the wife of the late Sidney Brint Snipes. Mrs. Snipes was raised by the late Ernest Deese and the late Olga Williams Deese due to the passing of her mother at only three months old. She loved working crossword puzzles, traveling, and sharing the gospel. Mrs. Snipes and her husband were members of White Springs Baptist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir, taking trips with her church family, and teaching Sunday school many years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Snipes were also members of The Christian Motorcycle Ministry where they witnessed and shared their testimonies with other motorcycle clubs. She will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend to many.
Mrs. Snipes is survived by her daughter, Mary Louise Snipes Weatherford and her husband, Lucian "Boogie" Weatherford, Jr.; her two grandchildren, Brent Weatherford and Stacey Biddy, and her husband, John; two great grandchildren, Stella, and Holden; and two great-great grandchildren, Liam, and Alex; and many special nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Sidney B. Snipes; her parents, and adopted parents; her three brothers, Paul Barton, Max Barton, and Gerald Barton; five sisters, Louise Slayton, Mary Robinson, Juanita Knight, Dot Nesbit, and Yvonne Smith; and her nephew, Donald "Donnie" Barton.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Snipes will be 2:00 pm Monday, July 21, 2025, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Jody Flowers. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, one hour prior to the service, at Burgess Funeral Home and at all other times at the home of Barbara McManus, 2685 Lazy Oak Dr., Lancaster, SC 29720. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to White Springs Baptist Church, 1249 Grace Ave, Lancaster, SC 29720.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Agape Hospice of the Midland's for their loving care and compassion that was given to Mrs. Snipes.
