LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Betty Bailey Roddey, age 87, passed away Friday, July 12, 2019 at MUSC Health Lancaster. She was born October 23, 1931 in Lancaster, the daughter of the late Baxter Spurgeon Bailey and Leila Humphries Bailey.  Family was very important to her and she loved them all dearly; especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She loved going to family reunions.  Mrs. Roddey enjoyed sewing, quilting and baking.  She loved gardening, her flowers, watching birds and all nature.

Mrs. Roddey is survived by three sons, Rick A. Gainey (Janet), Tim Gainey (Vickie), and Kenney Gainey (Lisa); a daughter, Naida Starnes (Nelson); eight grandchildren, Michael Gainey, Rickey Crenshaw (Katrina), Allen "Pete" Craig, Melissa Craig (Jeremy), Kristen Gainey, Kent Gainey (Kelly), McKenzie Gainey, and Kyle Gainey; eleven great grandchildren; a sister, Doris Small; a sister-in-law, Nancy Bailey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Roddey was preceded in death by her first husband, Ray W. Gainey; her second husband, Roy G. Roddey; a granddaughter-in-law, Alesha Gainey; three brothers, Floyd Bailey, Clyde Bailey, and Baxter "Junebug" Bailey; and four sisters, Evelyn Cauthen, Pauline Moseley, Louise Baker and Gladys Sims.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mrs. Roddey will be 3:00 pm, Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Rev. Mitch Ingram.

The family will receive family and friends from 2:00-3:00 pm Wednesday at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, SC and other times at the home of Rick and Janet Gainey.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Freedom Freewill Baptist Church, 1697 N. Rocky River Rd., Lancaster, SC 29720.
