LANCASTER, SC ~ Betty Lou Hough Phillips, Grams, 90, passed away peacefully July 20, 2018. Born December 8, 1927, in Kershaw, SC to the late Lee Roy Hough and Lula Couch Hough. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Fred W. Phillips. Mrs. Phillips is survived by a daughter, Candye Faile (Pete); a son, Wayne Ellis (Brenda) of Heath Springs; a brother, Max Hough (Yvonne); a sister, Loraine Steele; five grandchildren, Brittany Kennington (Buck), Alex Ingram (Garrett), Cassandra Eckstorm (Andy), Angela Jordan (Tony), and Kevin Ellis; and ten great grandchildren.

Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. Phillips; her parents; a brother. Gary Hough; two sisters, Catherine Shields and Elsie Laney; and a brother-in-law, Martin A. Steele.

Mrs. Phillips retired after 50+ years from Springs Industries. She was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. Mrs. Phillips enjoyed cooking, crafting, gardening and reading. She enjoyed spending time with her family, going to the beach and sitting and talking with her sister. Mrs. Phillips was always known for her style and grace. She was a Volunteer at Springs Memorial Hospital for 15 years.

The family appreciates the love and support of the staff at Hospice of Lancaster and would like to express a special thanks to her caregiver, Bethany Mattox.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Phillips will be 5:00 pm Sunday, July 22, 2018 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home by Rev. Mitch Ingram. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:00 pm, Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, Lancaster, SC 29720.
