LANCASTER, SC:::::::: Mrs. Betty Jean Hagins Carpenter, age 87, died Friday, January 23, 2015, at Springs Memorial Hospital. She was born November 19, 1927 in Lancaster, SC and was the daughter of the late Garner Heyward Hagins and Ivey Mozelle Baker Hagins, and the wife of the late Wade Carpenter. Mrs. Carpenter retired from Springs Industry Customer Service Center and was a member of Saint Luke United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Carpenter is survived by a niece, Coleen Garris Byrd and her husband Ronnie, a nephew Jimmy Ray Garris, a great nephew Greg Johnson and his wife Sonya, a great niece, Mindi Johnson Crisler and her husband Scott.

Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by two sisters, Stella Hagins Garris, and Ernestine Hagins Bishop and a brother, Biggart Haggins.

The Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Mrs. Carpenter will be Tuesday, January 27, 2015 at 3:00 pm, at the Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home by Rev. Bill McCown with burial to follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.

The Family of Mrs. Carpenter will receive friends one hour before the service, from 2:00 - 3:00 pm at the funeral home, and in lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to the Saint Luke United Methodist Church, 128 Providence Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
