Obituary

LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Benita Holder Miller (Moorefield), age 90, passed away on January 8, 2026 at her home. She was born November 8, 1935, in Charlotte, NC, the daughter of the late William Pressley "Press" Holder and the late Edna Williams Holder and was the beloved wife of Ben Moorefield.

Benita was a longtime member of Covenant Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended for over 20 years. She was an active member of the Joy Sunday School Class, the 4G Sunday School Class, and the Lydia Group Circle. Benita was also a member of the Garden Club, a former member of the Lancaster Women's Club and the Lancaster Christian Women's Connection, and she served her community through leadership roles shared between Covenant Baptist Church and First ARP Church.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and dear friend to many. Known for her Southern hospitality, charm, and grace, Benita also had a playful side—she was a prankster with a quick wit who delighted in laughter and caring for others. Her love for her church and her community was evident in all she did. Professionally, she served as an executive administrator at Duracell. Benita was first married to Donald Miller for 53 years, and in 2017 she married Ben Moorefield.

Benita is survived by her husband, Ben Moorefield; her three daughters, Becki M. Gardner (Mike), Brenda M. Emmons (Bruce), Benay S. Kennington (Bill); her son-in-law, Paul Beatham; her grandchildren, Bryan Gardner (Corinne), Alison King (Will), Kristen Privette (Matt), Michael Emmons (Jared), Caroline Zaney (Robbie), Sydney Beatham, Kylie Starnes, Allie Plyler (Ronnie), and Kortney Kennington; 18 great-grandchildren, and one on the way; and many special nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by Ben's two daughters, Amy Jones, and April Silvaggo; four grandchildren, Sara Morris (Max), Will Jones, Emily Silvaggo, and Nick Silvaggo (Gray); and his six great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Miller; her daughter, Beth M. Beatham; her parents, Press and Edna Holder; her four brothers, Bill Holder, Benny Holder, Barney Holder, and Buddy Holder; and her three sisters, Bettilou Ellis, Barbara Holder, and Braunda Flowe.
