LANCASTER, SC:::::::::: Mr. Ben C. Blackmon, age 77, died Friday, July 10, 2015 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte. He was born March 25, 1938 in Lancaster, and was the son of the late Amos Dabney Blackmon and Connie Hinson Blackmon and was the husband of Mrs. Nancy Hinson Blackmon. Mr. Blackmon was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved his church, gospel music, old cars, Nascar racing and Jeff Gordon was his favorite driver. Mr. Blackmon enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially his granddaughters.
He was a member of Second Baptist Church, a member of Antioch Masonic Lodge 399 and a Shriner. Mr. Blackmon retired from Springs Industries as a Waste Treatment Operator. After retirement, he worked at Honda Cars of Rock Hill, Lancaster Children's Home and the Lancaster County Sheriff's Department where he was able to minister to the inmates. The position at the Sheriff's Department brought him much joy being able to minister to those in need.
Mr. Blackmon is survived by his wife, Nancy Hinson Blackmon; two sons, Scott Blackmon and his wife Robyn, and Mark Blackmon and his wife Susan; six granddaughters, Morgan, Mallory, Riley, Dabney, Sallie Anne and Audrey; three sisters, Polly Walters, Marian Hough, and Lula Snipes and her husband Ralph, all of Lancaster.
Mr. Blackmon was preceded in death by three brothers; Austin Blackmon, Sam Hinson and Johnny Hinson.
The family will receive family and friends from 12:00 - 2:00 pm on Monday, July 13, 2015 at Second Baptist Church Sanctuary prior to The Celebration of Life Service.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Blackmon will be 2:00 pm, Monday, July 13, 2015 at Second Baptist Church by Dr. Brian Saxon, Rev. Larry Helm and Rev. Bill Sumner. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Second Baptist Church Building Fund 1426 Great Falls Hwy., Lancaster, SC 29720.
