FORT LAWN, SC ::::::::::: Mr. Belven Barber Roddey, Jr., known to family and friends as "B.B.", went to be with the Lord Tuesday, August 23, 2011. He was born July 17, 1924 in Chester County, a son of the late Belven B. Roddey, Sr. and Juanita Dunn Roddey and was the husband of Sinnie Mae Woodle Roddey. B.B. was a long-time resident of Fort Lawn where he was a member of Fort Lawn Baptist Church. As a member of his church, he served as deacon, Sunday school teacher, and trustee. For many years B.B. was a Boy Scout and later became a scout master touching the lives of many young boys. He was a member of both the Civitan and Lancaster Rotary Clubs. Roddey served as chairman of the board of directors for Founders Federal Credit Union in the late 1980"s after his retirement from Springs Industries where he worked for 38 years serving in the capacity as plant manager of the Grace Sewing Plant for many of those years. B.B. is most noted by colleagues and workers for his bowties, which became his trademark. For many years rose gardening was his favorite hobby, and sharing roses was his way of giving to family and friends. Mr. Roddey is survived by his wife of 65 years, Sinnie Mae Roddey of Morningside Assisted Living, 2 brothers, Harry W. Roddey and his wife Louise of Lancaster and Carlisle Roddey and his wife Lois of Chester, a sister, Bernice Miller of Chester, his niece and caregiver; Debbie Roddey Williams and her husband Howard of Lancaster, as well many nieces and nephews. Mr. Roddey was preceded in death by 2 sisters; Aileen Knox and Eloise Bagley. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Roddey will be 2:00 pm Friday, August 26, 2011 at Fort Lawn Baptist Church by Rev. Ted Hodges. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. The Family of Mr. Roddey will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Hartley Funeral Home and other times at the home of Howard and Debbie Williams, 500 Hilltop Lane, Lancaster.
