LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Rebecca "Becky" Carnes Sanders, age 67, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024. She was born February 7, 1957, in Lancaster, SC, daughter of Phebe Dew Carnes and the late Jack Ferral Carnes and was the wife of the late Timothy Richard Sanders. Becky was very smart and loved teaching. She was a graduate of the University of South Carolina and continued on to receive her master's degree from Central Michigan University. Becky taught at Central Piedmont Community College where she was Program Chair and Professor of Medical Laboratory Technology. She enjoyed being with her son and his family, especially her grandchildren and she was an excellent caregiver to her parents. Becky was a faithful member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher for children and adult classes, worked with the JAM program, and was extremely active with Operation Christmas Child.

Becky is survived by her son, Kevin Summers (Brittany); two grandchildren, Aubrey and Owen Summers; mother, Phebe Carnes; sister, Anne Briggs (Spencer); and three nephews, Wess Briggs (fiancé, Chloe Blackmon), Jesse Briggs, and Trace Briggs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tim Sanders; father, Jack Carnes; and brother, Jack Carey Carnes.

The Celebration of Life Service for Becky will be 2:00 pm, Sunday, August 4, 2024, at Bethlehem Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Patrick Blackmon and Dr. Jessie Adams.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends following the burial in the church family life center and other times at the home of Spencer and Anne Briggs. In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, memorials may be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1841 N Rocky River Rd., Lancaster, SC 29720.
