LANCASTER, SC – Mr. Barry Stephen Harkey, age 68, passed away Sunday, August 18, 2024. He was born December 4, 1955, in Lancaster, SC, son of the late John Edward Harkey and Barbara Ruth Austin Harkey. Mr. Harkey loved riding his Harley motorcycle, collecting guns, listening to music from the 50's and 60's, being outdoors, working in his shop, watching movies especially Sci-Fi, eating out, and spending time with family and friends. He was a great mechanic who could fix anything and was just an overall jack of all trades. Mr. Harkey retired from Duracell as a mechanic.

Mr. Harkey is survived by his children, Stephen "Scott" Harkey, Joshua Harkey (Melissa), Kelly Harkey, and Kimberly Harkey Outen (Brian); six grandchildren, Kyle Harkey (Summer), Alex Harkey, Dillon Harkey (Kacie), Kiley Passmore (James), Brittany Carroll (Jared), and Stephen Outen; six great grandchildren, Omari Johnson, Kyston Passmore, Liam Harkey, Carter Harkey, Paisley Carroll, and Granger Carroll, and one on the way; common law wife, Brenda Haile; two sisters, Sharon Adams and Stacey Laney; two honorary brothers, J.W. Stevens and Ricky Roney; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his late wife, Brenda Watson Harkey; and his parents.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Harkey will be 2:00 pm Saturday, August 24, 2024, at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Pastor Clyde Hardin. The burial will be private.
