LANCASTER, SC ~ Barbara A. (Banks) Sullivan passed away on July 17 th , 2021, at the age of 71 at home with her family after a battle with cancer. She was a beloved wife to her husband Jim for nearly 49 years and a wonderful mother to her three children and grandmother to her 5 grandchildren.
Barbara was born on September 30, 1949, in Louisville, KY. A graduate of Manual High School in Louisville, she attended Indiana University in Bloomington, IN. She had a wonderful career as a college professor for over 40 years. She had multiple degrees including a Masters in Gerontology and Social Work (Washington University), a Masters in Industrial Psychology (Purdue University) and a Bachelors in Psychology (Indiana University). She was a voracious learner and truly enjoyed teaching.
She was an avid golfer, sports fan, and social planner. She was active all of her life, ensuring she got her steps in, golfing with her friends, bike riding, playing bridge and creating plans for the next adventure for her friends and family. Barbara was an incredibly giving person and always thinking of others before herself. Above all else, she was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Patricia "Patty" Banks and her brother F. David Banks. She is survived by her husband Jim; her 3 children Robin Johnson, John Sullivan (wife Belle Fair), and Jim Sullivan (wife Meryl); and her 5 grandchildren (Logan and Landry Johnson; Theo, Jake and Benji Sullivan).
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 31 st , from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in Fort Mill, SC at the Tavern at the Lakes in Sun City (Carolina Lakes Golf Club). There will be another Celebration of Life in Old Hickory in Fort Myers, FL in the Fall. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the American Cancer Society or to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
