Obituary

INDIAN LAND, SC ~ Barbara Burns, 76, passed away Sunday July 19, 2020 at home surrounded by family in Sun City Carolina Lakes (Indian Land), SC.   Bobbie was born November 3, 1943 in Northport, New York the daughter of the late John and Estelle Ligon and also preceded in death by her brother Jack Ligon.

Bobbie attended Northport HS and graduated from Marietta College (Ohio) in 1965 with Degrees in History and Education. She had a varied and rewarding work career: Elementary and High School History teacher; Cruise Line Travel Agent; Community Liaison Representative for the US Embassy in Lisbon, Portugal; and Tour Guide extraordinaire for all the Central Florida attractions and Kennedy Space Center.  Though her best and most rewarding job was being a great Mom and Grandmother and a wonderful Wife.

Second only to her love for family and many friends, was her love of three generations of dachshunds; which she regularly took to residents of Assisted Living Homes for Pet Therapy.  Bobbie loved the beach, boating, going to movies, plays and music concerts (from the Rolling Stones to Jimmy Buffett to Neil Diamond), reading, politics, serving as a Girl Scout Leader, going to Navy and Carolina Panthers football games, living in Puerto Rico and Lisbon and traveling to over 50 countries around the world.

Bobbie is survived by her loving husband of 55 years Richard (Dick) Burns (Captain, US Navy/Retired), two daughters, Michelle Kilkenny (Tom) of Arlington, VA and Leslie Williams (Mike) of Matthews, NC; three grandchildren, Erin Kilkenny, Lori and Ryan Williams and her sister-in-law Sharon Lowe.

A local Celebration of Life Memorial Service for Bobbie will be scheduled, when possible. The location and date to be determined. A later burial service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a time to be determined.
