LANCASTER, SC ~ Barbara Ghent Barrett, 67, went to her heavenly home Thursday, October 7, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 19, 1954 in Lancaster, a daughter of the late Carl Harrison Ghent and Roxie Dunlap Ghent. She is a graduate of Buford High School and earned her Masters Degree from the University of South Carolina. She retired from Central High School in Pageland as a Media Specialist; during her career she also worked at Central Elementary and Baron DeKalb for a total of 38 years in education. After retiring, Barbara was a Funeral Assistant at Burgess Funeral Home. She had a huge, giving heart and enjoyed life to the fullest. One of her passions while serving as a media specialist was decorating for prom. She also enjoyed decorating for weddings and parties. Barbara was a member of the Women of the Moose and the Lancaster Shag Club. She had so much fun attending SOS at the beach and socializing with her many friends. She enjoyed shopping at the G&W Boutique, crafting, and making something out of nothing. Barbara enjoyed the outdoors, camping, visiting the beach, and the mountains. Her greatest love in life was her family. She was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Barbara is survived by her children, Allison Massey Wallace and her fiancé, Greg Faulkenberry, Christy Massey Hendrix and her husband, Davey, and Nicole Miller- English and her husband Kenny; her significant other, Paris Caskey; two grandchildren, Andrew Wallace and Kinsleigh Hendrix; four bonus grandchildren, Abby and Austin Hendrix, and Liza and Levi Faulkenberry; four sisters, Joanne Hartley (Jerry), Pat Barton, Marty Burgess, and Evelyn Finch; a sister-in-law, Pearleane Sanders (Bert); a brother-in-law, Jack Adams; many nieces and nephews that loved her like a sister; a large extended family; and a special friend, Lulu Hernandez.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Bobby C. Ghent and Johnny Ghent; two sisters, Betty Carol Adams, and Mary Clemmer; sister-in-law, Barbara Adams Ghent; brothers-in-law, Bobby Clemmer, Richard Barton, J.B. Finch and Mike Burgess, and her dearest friend, Joyce Forbis.
The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Barbara will be 3:00 pm Sunday, October 10, 2021 at The Chapel of Burgess Funeral Home officiated by Dr. Brian Saxon. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 pm Sunday, one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home. Barbara has finished her journey and is now in the presence of her Lord and Savior. Her journey touched many lives, and we will be forever grateful and blessed to have met such wonderful people. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the MUSC Transplant Team and the staff of 5 East. You became our family and gave our Mom purpose for the many months she spent with you. Also, we would like to thank Hospice of Lancaster, and Nancy Rushing, for the care and compassion shown to our Mom.
