Obituary

LANCASTER, SC :::::::: Mr. Archie "Bob" Lee Steele, age 89, of 2523 Charlotte Hwy., died Sunday, April 15, 2012 at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill. He was born March 29, 1923 in Union County, NC, the son of the late Roy Sinclair Steele and Nora Therrell Steele and was the husband of 59 years to the late Mary Ross Cauthen Steele. Mr. Steele retired from Masonry Contractors, Inc. and Lancaster County Recycling Center and was a member of Taylors Grove Baptist Church. Mr. Steele served our great country in the United States Marine Corps in the Pacific during World War II with the 1st Division, 1st Regiment, and 3rd Battalion, K Company. He fought in the battles of Cape Gloucester (New Britain), Peleliu and Okinawa. Mr. Steele is survived by 2 sons, Danny Ross Steele and his wife Pat and Terry Lee Steele and his wife Brenda both of Lancaster, a brother, Herman E. Steele and his wife Janette of Lancaster, 4 granddaughters, Greta Qualls of Charlotte, Hollie West of Lugoff, Amanda Steele of Great Falls, and Lori Wright of Lancaster, and 8 great grandchildren, Alexander Jackson, Yadon and Naz Qualls, Jasmine and Kati Huey and Jonathan Steele Caldwell, Andrew and Koty Wright. Mr. Steele was preceded in death by a brother Earl Steele and 2 sisters, Christine Schwartz and Myrtle Howie. The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mr. Steele will be 4:00 pm, Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Taylors Grove Baptist Church by Rev. Tommy Howell and Rev. Mike Hammond. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The Family of Mr. Steele will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at the funeral home and in lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials to Taylors Grove Baptist Church, Building Fund or Hospice of Lancaster, 902 W. Meeting Street, Suite A, Lancaster, SC 29720 or Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House, 2275 India Hook, Rock Hill, SC 29732.
