Obituary

FORT MILL, SC:::::Anthony "Tony" Munifo, born May 10th 1938, passed away at the age of 76 on the night of September 25th 2014 after a five month battle with lung cancer. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York to the late Joseph Munifo and Lena Longo Munifo Rossi and though he lived in Indian Land, SC for the last three years, New York would always be "home" .

Tony served our great country in the United States Army and was of the Catholic faith. He married Teresa Rose Zielenski and is survived by three children, a son, Anthony "Tony" Munifo, Jr. of Keller, Texas, two daughters, Julie Lago and her husband Keith of Waxhaw, NC and Lisa Munifo of Long Island, NY. He also leaves behind a brother, Joseph Munifo of Scranton, PA, two sisters, Nancy McManus of Florida and Christina Rossi of Long Island, NY, and eight grandchildren, Joseph Munifo, Anthony Munifo, Mary Rose Munifo, William O'Shaughnessy, Ryan O'Shaughnessy, John Michael Vanacore, Tyler Kadletz and Zephyr Osit. Tony was preceded in death by a brother, Freddie Rossi. Tony was a retired pastry chef and had a passion for cooking. He shared much of himself while preparing lentil soup or napoleons and he especially enjoyed sharing that passion with the people he loved. He was a proud family man, and it was usually in the kitchen where Tony taught his children about the importance of respect, hard work and perseverance. Second to cooking, Tony loved old movies and music. When his children were young, Sunday mornings included making Italian sauce and listening to Jimmy Roselli on the radio. He was also very fond of the ocean and while living on Long Island spent weekends at the Sore Thumb, fishing and crabbing from the dock or on his boat.

Tony had a very witty personality and was welcomed everywhere he went. He liked to make others laugh with a good story or a sarcastic joke and up until his last days, he continued to keep the mood light with a funny comment or even a silly face when things got too serious. His infectious joy and laughter will be missed by many, leaving a void in our hearts.

Tony's final days were spent surrounded by friends and family; however it was his best friend, Irene Molyneux and his daughter, Julie, who were by his side when he took his last breath.
