LANCASTER, SC:::::::::Mrs. Annie Lee Broome Auten, age 92, passed away Monday, September 7, 2015 at White Oak Manor. She was born July 13, 1923 in Paw Creek, NC. She was the daughter of the late Lee Miller Broome and Annie Bumgardner Broome and was the wife of Rev. Coit Eugene Auten. Mrs. Auten was a member of First Baptist Church. She was a choir member in various churches for over 60 years, a faithful pastor's wife and his unofficial secretary. In the early years of her career, she worked as a secretary at Kendall Mills and retired from Winn Dixie as bookkeeper. Upon retirement, Mrs. Auten became a teacher's assistant at First Baptist Church Wee School, where she loved working with children. She was also actively involved in many other activities at First Baptist Church including the Women's Missionary Union.

Mrs. Auten is survived by her husband of 69 years, Rev. Coit Eugene Auten; two daughters, Cynthia A. Jonas and her husband, Gadsden of York and Kathy A. Roberts and her husband Kim "Hoppy" of Heath Springs; a brother, William A. Broome of Mt. Holly; a sister-in-law, Frances Auten of Charlotte; five grandchildren: Brent Jonas (Deborah), Meredith Clinton (Corey), Stephanie Jonas, Katie and Bobby Roberts and five great grandchildren: Pete and Helena Jonas, Colin and Brenna Clinton, and Anna Jonas.

Mrs. Auten was preceded in death by four brothers: Paul Broome, Leonard Broome, Ralph Broome and Robert Broome and two sisters: Katherine McEntire and Elizabeth Ledford.

The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Auten will be 11:00 am Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at First Baptist Church by Rev. Randy Hatcher, Rev. Dr. Rick Auten, Rev. Don Waldrop and Rev. Carey Caldwell. Burial will follow at 4:00 pm Wednesday afternoon at Lakeview Memory Garden in York, SC.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Burgess Funeral Home and the family suggests memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church, PO Box 670, Lancaster, SC 29721.


The Celebration of Life Funeral Service for Mrs. Auten will be 11:00 am Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at First Baptist Church.

Burial will follow at 4:00 pm Wednesday afternoon at Lakeview Memory Garden in York, SC.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm, Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Burgess Funeral Home.
