LANCASTER, SC ~ Mrs. Alice Harter Street, 95, passed away Friday, August 24, 2018 at the Lancaster Convalescent Center. She was born March 23, 1923 in Leeds, MO., a daughter of the late John William Harter and Sophronia McCoy Harter. She was the wife of the late, Frank J. Speedy Street, for over 40 years. Mrs. Street grew up during the Depression in Willow Springs, MO. and was a long-time resident of Independence, MO. She and her husband left in 2004 to move to Indianapolis, IN., where he passed away, and then she moved to Moorseville, NC and Lancaster, SC. Mrs. Street was employed by Lake City Arsenal in Independence, MO. during World War II and later by Western Electric in Lees Summit, MO. She enjoyed ironing, hanging clothes on the line and cleaning her home. She loved being in the kitchen preparing many delicious meals for her family and friends, but rarely sitting down herself to eat. Having lived through the Depression when her family had very little to eat, she loved being able to watch other people enjoy the food shed prepared. One of the things she was most noted for were her delicious cinnamon rolls. Her other amazing talent was the many beautiful quilts she made.

Mrs. Street is survived by a son, Jim Carter and his wife, Gaye, of Rock Hill, SC; a daughter, Reba Peavler and her husband, Dennis, of Mooresville, NC; four grandchildren, Erin Peavler (Kelly), Chaney Brown (Dave), Jason Carter and Josh Carter; and six great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Eli, Addison, Gavin, Ashton, and Margot.

Mrs. Street was preceded in death by her husband; a granddaughter, Jennifer Carter; her parents; three sisters, Georgia, Mary and Helen; and seven brothers, James, Paul, Melvin, John, Kenneth, Ralph and Robert.

The Celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Street will be 11:00 am Wednesday, August 29, 2018 at Noland Road Chapel, 509 S. Noland Road, Independence, MO. Burial will follow at Mound Grove Cemetery in Independence, MO. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am-11:00 am, one hour prior to the service.
